Unbeaten West Australian sprinter Barakey’s career is often associated with Black Caviar, but punters are tipping the comparisons drawn between the two horses will end in Saturday week’s Newmarket Handicap at Flemington.

Barakey, who is chasing his 12th win from as many starts, has been friendless with punters since being scratched at the barriers before last Saturday’s Oakleigh Plate.

“Our punters love affair with Barakey appears over,” Sportingbet Australia (http://www.sportingbet.com.au/partners.asp?btag=a_806b_464) CEO Michael Sullivan said.

“There’s been only a trickle of small bets for Barakey to win the Newmarket while all three of his main rivals have been well backed,” Sullivan said.

Barakey has eased from $4 out to $5 with Sportingbet Australia while Moment Of Change has firmed from $4.20 into $2.90 and been the subject of a number of significant four figure bets.

“Moment Of Change has the experience up the straight and was awesome behind her stablemate Black Caviar in the Lightning,” Sullivan said.

Luckygray is a rock solid third favourite at $6 while the Kelly Schweida trained Better Than Ready has been backed from $21 into $8 and has attracted one bet of $3,000 at the $21.

“If Barakey runs well in his jump out at Flemington next week it might give punters an excuse to back him again but at this stage they aren’t interested in a horse with no experience up the straight.”
