Australia’s cricketers might be coming off a 5-0 Ashes series sweep of England but punters are rallying behind South Africa to beat them in the 1st test commencing in Centurion tonight, slashing the Proteas’ odds from $2.30 into $2 at Sportingbet.

Australia’s odds of victory in the 1st test have drifted from $2.70 out to $2.90 while the draw is $4.50.

“We’re holding four times the money for South Africa to win the 1st test than what we are for the Aussies,” Sportingbet (http://www.sportingbet.com.au/partners.asp?btag=a_806b_11547) spokesman Andrew Brown said.

“The punters who profited from the Aussies during the Ashes appear to have abandoned them and the Proteas are also being well backed to win the series.”

South Africa has firmed from $1.75 into $1.70 to win the three-test series. Australia is $3.50 to win the series while a drawn series is at odds of $5.

South Africa’s Dale Steyn is a $4.25 favourite in front of teammate Vernon Philander at $4.50 to take the most wickets of the series, while Hashim Amla is a $5.50 favourite to make the most series runs ahead of Michael Clarke and AB de Villiers, both at $6.50.
