This year’s renewal of the only Australian Group One run under handicap conditions for fillies and mares is an intriguing affair. The history of this race suggests the lighter weighted improving mares are well suited along with the emerging three year old fillies. The only mare to carry more than 56 kilograms in the last twenty years was the mighty Sunline who lumped 60 kg on two occasions.

Top class three year old filly Streama ($3.30) is ready to peak after two runs back from a spell and if she can reproduce her dominant Flight Stakes win from last Spring she will be too good for these. She is likely to be ridden more conservatively from a wide alley just as she was in the Flight.

Progressive mare Steps In Time ($4.40) should find her own lead here with the last hundred metres being the only query. Looking for some value for the exotics Queensland mare Tomboy ($51) appeals. She looks like settling second trailing Steps In Time and with the inform Craig Williams jumping aboard is well worth an each way ticket at huge odds.
