Real madrid vs atletico madrid tips & predictions

It’s an all-Madrid Champions League Final for the second time in three years on Saturday. Atletico Madrid look for revenge against arch rivals Real Madrid. Our free betting predictions suggest Atletico Madrid have what it takes to see off Real Madrid and lift the trophy.

    TIPS
Atletico Madrid to Lift the Trophy

    REASON FOR BETTING TIPS
The two Madrid giants meet in another Champions League Final on Saturday. Diego Simeone looks to add club football’s biggest prize to his cabinet after narrowly missing out in 2014.

The last final ended 1-1 after 90 minutes thanks to a last minute Sergio Ramos equaliser. Despite all the attacking talent available to both teams it was down to both centre backs to get the only goals in normal time. Real Madrid dominated extra time though and made their 10th European Cup win look much more comfortable than it was. Gareth Bale, Marcelo, and Cristiano Ronaldo netted in the 2nd half of extra time to win 4-1.

There has been definite improvement in Atletico Madrid since then though. They have won five, drawn four, and lost just one of their ten meetings with Real Madrid since that final. Despite constantly losing their best players to supposedly bigger clubs they always manage to come back stronger.

Atletico Madrid missed out on the La Liga title by just three points this season. Real Madrid two points above them in 2nd and Barcelona pipping both of them to the title.

As far as the road to the final goes, Atletico Madrid will feel like they can beat anybody. Diego Simeone’s side struggled through against PSV in the earlier stages of the knockout rounds. They then went on to show their class as they beat Barcelona 3-2 on aggregate in the quarter finals. They then eliminated Bayern Munich on away goals in the semi finals.

Real Madrid had to get past Roma, Wolfsburg, and Manchester City, who are all good sides but not really on the same level as the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid’s away defeat to Wolfsburg in the quarter finals was their last defeat in any competition. They have won nine of the ten games since then. Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, have won eight and lost two of their last ten in all competitions.

This will undoubtedly be an incredibly tight game in Milan. Real Madrid have a star studded line up capable of beating anybody on their day, but Diego Simeone has proven time and time again that he is a tactical genius. Despite their relative lack of resources he has managed to challenge the two dominant forces in Spain and brought the best out of the likes of Fernando Torres, Koke, and Diego Godin, not to mention the talents of Saul Niguez and Antoine Griezmann.

Raphael Varane won’t play a part for Real Madrid, with the talented young defender suffering from injury. But the big story is that Cristiano Ronaldo limped out of training and is now a doubt for the clash in Milan.

Ronaldo has scored 16 goals in this season’s campaign, the second highest tally ever after his record breaking 17 goals in the 2013/14 campaign. Without him Atletico Madrid have a clear advantage, Add to the fact that they have only lost one of their last ten meetings with Real Madrid it makes for Atletico Madrid to Lift the Trophy incredibly good value. I’m backing a 1-1 correct score prediction in normal time

    HEAD TO HEAD
Atletico Madrid have been impressive against the previously dominant Real Madrid over the past few years. Diego Simeone's side have only lost once against Real Madrid in the ten meetings since the last Champions League Final, winning five of them and drawing the other four.

    STATS
Atletico Madrid have only lost 10% of their ten matches against Real Madrid since their Champions League Final defeat in 2014.

    TEAM NEWS
Real Madrid will be without young defender Raphael Varane for this crucial clash, and Cristiano Ronaldo is also a doubt after picking up a thigh injury in training

Key centre back Diego Godin is expecting to be 100% fit for the Champions League final after recovering from a thigh injury.
