Weekend racing preview - Oct 22/23

Cox Plate – Moonee Valley Race 8
There looks to be more depth to the Cox Plate this year. We can expect a good tempo with Glass Harmonium and Helmet both likely to go forward in their usual racing styles.

Going with the gun three year old Helmet ($3.30) on top. He has no weight, races on the pace and has better form than So You Think when he won his first Plate. Expect him to look the winner at some point. Rekindled Interest ($6.00) flew at track work during the week with blinkers on Tuesday. He loves the Valley and has been set for this race. He’ll run a huge race.

King’s Rose ($11.00) won the best form race of the Spring here two starts back in the Stocks Stakes and is drawn perfectly in barrier 2. Secret Admirer ($11.00) was ultra-impressive in the Epsom and has been working well at the Valley in track work over the last couple of weeks. Jimmy Choux ($5.00) looks to have the task from his barrier.

Crystal Mile – Moonee Valley Race 7
The Crystal Mile is always a good competitive race. Tipping on top Luen Yat Forever ($4.80) who is flying this preparation and looks ready to break through for a deserved win. Luke Nolen is back on for this ride.

Testa My Patience ($3.60) was impressive last start at Caulfield, is a winner at the mile, has the perfect draw and is the deserved favourite here. Ginga Dude ($15.00) drops 3kg in weight and is drawn to get the box seat. He’s won 5 of 11 at the mile. The wildcard could be He’s Remarkable ($6.00) who is a kiwi with form behind Jimmy Choux in the autumn and is racing well. Expect to see Blackie ($13.00) charging home after jarring up at Caulfield.

Trojan Stakes – Moonee Valley Race 9
It’s an open mares race to finish a great day of racing. Lady Lynette is shooting for three consecutive wins in this race, but tipping the lightly raced Neriani ($5.50) on top. She was very brave at Caulfield where she covered ground the whole way but still managed to grab second. She’s drawn to get a better run here.

Lady Lynette ($5.00) was a bit disappointing in that race last time, but she loves the Valley and will have been set for this race. More Strawberries ($5.50) comes down from Sydney. She was dominant two starts back and then was up against it in the Epsom with a poor gate. She’s drawn perfectly and will be hard to hold out. Hi Belle ($8.00) is flying this preparation and will race well again.
