The following preview is from Gerard Twomey at IASbet (http://record.iasbetaffiliates.com/_SUPLHJFRM3O77L7zifyVX2Nd7ZgqdRLk/1).

With slight queries over the top three fancies punters could be well advised to look for value in this year’s Derby renewal. The pace should be reasonable with Sangster ($51), Laser Hawk ($4), Sabrage ($61) and Satirical Boy ($7) all going forward.

The favourite Silent Achiever ($3.50) has to repeat the effort of last year’s winner Shamrocker and become only the second filly to beat the boys since Research back in 1989. She faces the same task as last week’s Slipper favourite Samaready in that she has to peak twice in one preparation having already won the NZ Derby last month, and appears under the odds at her current quote. Her compatriot Ocean Park ($4.60) took off at the 800m and made a long sustained run to finish a narrow second to Laser Hawk in the Rosehill Guineas, he is a late nomination for this race and there must be some query as to how he will race coming off such a hard run. Laser Hawk was ridden to perfection in the Rosehill Guineas and doesn’t appear to have a great deal more improvement left in him this preparation.

Strike The Stars ($13) ran second to Mosheen in the Australian Guineas which was the highest rating 3yo classic so far this autumn, he wasn’t suited by the soft ground in the Randwick Guineas and was given an ordinary ride last start. With the engagement of Craig Williams from the inside gate he appears over the odds. Lightly raced geldings Polish Knight ($13) and Ethiopia ($13) are both virtually untapped as staying prospects and will relish the wide open spaces of Randwick.

Rekindled Alliance ($12) has always given the impression that he has a big race performance in him and the quick back up coupled with the addition of a shadow roll to his racing gear may well do the trick.
