Queensland Guineas winner Sizzling remains a hot $4.40 favourite for Saturday’s Stradbroke Handicap despite drawing wide in gate 18 for Queensland’s biggest race.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said the wide barrier may not necessarily be a disadvantage.
“It’s a high pressure race that can be set up for swoopers so it may actually suit Sizzling,” Sullivan said.
Sizzling, a $26 chance for the Stradbroke with Sportingbet a month ago, was the best supported runner in pre-post betting.
“We’re holding a stack of big bets on Sizzling including $5,000 at $13 and he’s certainly been the punters pick so far,” Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said.
“He loves Eagle Farm but this is definitely Sizzling’s acid test and with a heap of quality chances in the race he’ll have to be at his best,” Sullivan said.
The Anthony Cummings trained Your Song has firmed from $6.00 into $4.80 second favouritism with Sportingbet ahead of Epaulette and Better Than Ready, both at $6.50.
Better Than Ready attracted a bet of $8,000 each way at $7.50 with Sportingbet prior to the final field.
In the Queensland Derby, Survived is a $3.65 favourite at Sportingbet in front of Hawkspur at $4.20. Rhythm To Spare is $6.50 ahead of Gondokoro at $7.50.
“Survived will get a long way back and I think there’s others in the race with better chances including Gondokoro,” Sullivan said.
