Carlton have blown out to $10 sixth favourites to win the flag after they were joint $4.25 favourites with Sportingbet Australia just two weeks ago.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said punters had dumped the Blues with big money coming instead for Essendon and Adelaide.
“Carlton were all the rage with punters just a couple of weeks ago and we saw a string of big bets in the early rounds that saw them shorten from $10 to $4.25,” Sullivan said.
“They have blown back out to their pre-season price now following disappointing losses to St Kilda and Adelaide and I can’t see even Blues fans declaring them Premiership contenders at the moment.”
While the Blues are on the nose with punters, Essendon’s Flag odds have been slashed from $26 to $7.50 in the past fortnight while Adelaide’s odds have shortened from $51 at the beginning of May to $9.00.
“The Bombers were $13 at Sportingbet last week and punters backed them to win close to $100,000 and they do look like genuine Premiership contenders all of a sudden,” Sullivan said.
“The punter who had $1000 at $41 back in late March would be particularly happy with himself too.
“The Crows meanwhile have snuck under punters guards a little but five straight wins including victories over Sydney, Geelong and Carlton have seen their odds slashed from $51 to $9.00 in three weeks.”
