    A-League wooden spoon market

For the first time in the club’s short history, the Western Sydney Wanderers are no longer favourites for the A-League 2012-13 Wooden Spoon. That honour has been passed to their cross-city cousins Sydney FC.

Sportingbet Australia spokesman Andrew Brown said punters have reacted strongly to the Wanderers recent run of success by backing Sydney FC and Melbourne Heart to finish last in the competition.

“Punters have completely abandoned Sydney FC,” Brown said.

“They’ve backed Sydney FC into $3.50 equal favouritism with Melbourne Heart to take out this season’s spoon and the Sky Blues odds of being A-League Champions have eased from $5.50 out to $15” Brown said.

“The Wanderers were as short as $1.65 for the spoon before the season commenced and they were still favourites last weekend but since beating Perth their price has now blown out to $5,” Brown said.

Punters have also slashed the Wanderers odds of winning the competition from $26 to $13. The Mariners are $6 favourites ahead of Perth Glory at $6.50 and Adelaide United and Brisbane Roar at $7 to be 2012-2013 A-League Champion.
