World number 4 Matt Kuchar’s recent run of form hasn’t gone unnoticed, with punters slashing his odds from $34 into $23 to win the 2013 US Open.
Kuchar, who finished in a tie for 6th at the 2010 US Open, heads into Merion with a second and a first from his last two PGA Tour starts, including a two shot victory at The Memorial.
“Kuchar’s by far and away the best backed contender with us and it’s hardly surprising when you consider his superb recent form,” Sportingbet Australia spokesman Andrew Brown said.
Tiger Woods is a clear-cut $6.50 favourite ahead of Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott, all at $21.
“Punters have pretty much disregarded Tiger’s terrible performance at The Memorial and he’s been solid at $6.50 to win his first US Open in five years,” Brown said.
“Scott’s Masters victory was a huge monkey off his back and you’d expect his confidence to be sky high heading into this tournament,” Brown said.
Scott is a $2.20 favourite to be the Top Australian, ahead of Jason Day at $3.50 and Marc Leishman at $10.
With the course a Par 70, Sportingbet has an over/under market for the tournament winning score set at 271.5. The over/under market for the leading first round score is set at 65.5.
Sportingbet is offering money back up to $100 if the player you back shoots under par every round but fails to win the tournament.
