At First Sight heavily backed for Bendigo Cup and Melbourne Cup

Bendigo Cup favourite At First Sight has been heavily backed for both tomorrow’s race and the Melbourne Cup with a string of big bets seeing his price crunched for both races with Sportingbet Australia.

At First Sight has shortened from $4.00 to $3.40 for the Bendigo Cup and $41 to $21 for the Melbourne Cup and Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said a strong win at Bendigo would see him amongst the Melbourne Cup favourites.

“At First Sight has been the only runner other than Americain there has been significant money for this week,” Sullivan said.

“We took a bet to win $25,000, a couple to win $20,000 each and a mountain of smaller bets as well on At First Sight in the Melbourne Cup.

“Punters have continued to back him even after we tightened the odds to $21.”

Sullivan said it had been a similar story in the Bendigo Cup.

“As soon as we put the market up for the Bendigo Cup, punters came for him at $4.00 with a number of four figure bets,” he said.

“He is now the clear favourite at $3.40 ahead of stable mate Tanby at $3.80 while Western Symbol has been the best backed at odds with good money coming for him at $14.”
