South Africa vs Australia - 1st Test

The first Test between South Africa and Australia starts on Wednesday, November 9, in Cape Town.

Michael Hussey has backed captain Michael Clarke, saying he enjoys the full support of his team-mates and that Australia are headed in the right direction under his leadership. Clarke has been embroiled in the controversy over the dropping of opener Simon Katich, who suggested Clarke had a role in keeping him out of the side.

Australian opening batsman Phillip Hughes is confident he can reproduce the form that saw him take Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel to pieces three years ago. In early 2009, he made twin centuries in Durban in his second Test as well as 75 at the Wanderers.

Below are the latest odds (subject to change):

    Series winner:

    South Africa: 2.20
    Draw: 3.00
    Australia: 3.40

    Series correct score:

    South Africa 2-0: 5.00
    South Africa 1-0: 3.75
    Draw 0-0: 8.50
    Draw 1-1: 4.25
    Australia: 1-0: 4.50
    Australia: 2-0: 9.00

    Test 1 result:

    South Africa: 2.60
    Draw: 2.80
    Australia: 3.05

    Test 1 double chance:

    South Africa or Australia: 1.40
    South Africa or Draw: 1.33
    Australia or Draw: 1.46

I quite like the idea of the Australia half-ball at 1.46.

South Africa haven't played a test series in 10 months, and Australia won the one-day series 2-1. They are also coming off the test series win in Sri Lanka.

Not a great start for Australia - 214/8 at the end of day 1. Will reserve judgment until I see South Africa bat.

The Marsh side of the multi still has every chance of getting up.

My half ball on Australia was looking good at the end of the first innings...

In hindsight the 'South Africa or Australia: 1.40' was the best wager.
