    ATP Barcelona

    Steve Darcis vs. Andrey Golubev

After the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 event the ATP World Tour moves to Barcelona, where another famous clay court tournament takes place. One of the first round matches is a clash between Belgian Steve Darcis and Andrey Golubev from Kazakhstan. Darcis is a solid player but he has always been plagued by injuries. His strenghts are serve and forehand and he has no problems to adapt his game to all surfaces. Darcis, nicknamed as "Shark", relies on his consistency and you have to show some solid tennis if you want to beat him as he rarely beats himself. Andrey Golubev is exactly the opposite - he can hit the ball with enormous power and make some excellent winners but usually has no consistency in his shots and often beats himself with plenty of unforced errors. The highlight of Golubev´s career was a title from Hamburg 2010 and he was even named as 2010 Most Improved Player Of The Year. But he showed nothing since then is now well outside Top100 and playing mostly challenger events. Golubev qualified for the main draw with two straight sets wins so he could gain some confidence and match rhytm but his lack of consistency should show in the end, especially in a match against player of Darcis style.

    Kevin Anderson vs. Malek Jaziri

We are about to visit Spanish city Barcelona with today´s tennis pick as we will look at the first round match between Kevin Anderson from South Africa and another African player Malek Jaziri from Tunisia. Kevin Anderson is a player who is profiting from his hard work and making most out of his abilities. He used to be a college player and later a player ranked just inside the Top100 but a lot has changed since last year and now Anderson is stable Top40 player with two ATP titles. Anderson is a big guy who relies on his big serve and powerful groundstrokes but also has limited movement that should be exposed on the slower red clay. He was easily defeated by Bellucci last week but the Brazilian was on a good run in Monte Carlo. With 28 years Malek Jaziri is not any youngster but he was one of the pleasant surprises of last season as he came out of nowhere to finish ranked well inside the Top100. His favourite shot is his forehand and he mentions hard court as his favourite surface but he grew up on the clay courts and surely knows how to play on the dirt. Jaziri played just a few matches on ATP level in his career but still holds a solid 5-8 record on this level. He retired in his last match in Casablanca but it was just due to dizziness and he should be fully fit today. Last interesting mention is that Jaziri trained in Barcelona for more than two years, so this will be familiar conditions for him. Jaziri shoud be able to make it a close match against Anderson, so 5 games handicap on him is on the paper a solid tennis pick!

    Starting Time: 24 April 2012, 11:10 CET
    Bet: Jaziri + 5 games
    Odds: 1.91
    Stake: 6 units
    Bookmaker: 5Dimes

Federico Del Bonis vs. Kevin Anderson

Very nice tennis pick coming from the second round of an ATP tournament in Barcelona, where Argentinean qualifier Federico Del Bonis meets Kevin Anderson from South Africa. 21-year-old Federico Del Bonis is one of the talented youngsters that are slowly making impact on the main tour and we will surely hear a lot about him in the future as he has the game and potential to develop into a very quality player. The admirer of Guillermo Vilas and Bjorn Borg nicknamed "Delbo" considers clay and outdoors hard courts as his favourite surfaces and he also showed some good form this year having a very solid 24-8 match record. Del Bonis has qualified for many ATP tournaments this year and the same happened also here in Barcelona and he is yet to lose a set here. Btw. Del Bonis is another player who often trains in this Spanish city. Anderson defeated Jaziri in his first match in Barcelona but Del Bonis is a player of different potential and should have great chance to reach the next round. Del Bonis should not be an underdog here and so is simply an excellent tennis pick today.

    Starting Time: 25 April 2012, 11:10 CET
    Bet: Del Bonis
    Odds: 2.30
    Stake: 9 units
    Bookmaker: 5Dimes
