How much do affiliates actually make?

If you want to start a new affiliate business it will take you huge, HUGE amount of time, work and dedication to bring in new costumers. I think this niche is over saturated now. Bear in mind also that in many countries the gambling laws are constantly changing, prompting betting companies to leave the markets, and thus leave the affiliates without potential new costumers.

I can't seem to get away from affiliate links these days when i'm on my fav betting tips sites. Even on twitter its everywhere. Is it really that profitable for someone to dedicate hours each day to figure out tips in the hopes of getting a new customer?

I know they get money from new customers but surely the large percentage of punters are already signed up before they start looking for tips??
