Danehill Stakes - large bets coming in for Sepoy

Punters haven’t blinked at taking the short odds of $1.20 about star three year old Sepoy, with Sportingbet Australia already striking a bet of $50,000 on the Golden Slipper winner.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said there had been a number of big bets on the Peter Snowden trained star and he would likely run shorter than his current quote of $1.20.

“Punters simply think he is a moral in a field that doesn’t have a huge amount of depth,” Sullivan said

“He gets in very well under the set weights with penalties and looks suited to the straight six.

“We have taken plenty of bets of $10,000 and $5000 as well as the $50,000 wager and we can’t find a punter to back any other runner at this stage.

Sullivan said the only possible challenge looked to come from the two fillies in Mosheen and Hallowell Belle.

“The two fillies are on the second and third lines of betting with Hallowell Belle at $8.00 and Mosheen at $9.00 but there has not been any real support for either,” he said.

“They were both impressive last start and if there is any chink in Sepoy’s armour, then they do look the most likely to knock him off.”
