Boom colt Sepoy has been abandoned by punters in Friday night’s Sportingbet Manikato Stakes with big money arriving for glamour Sydney mare, More Joyous and last start winner Buffering.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said More Joyous had been all the rage with punters early, shortening from $3.60 to $2.80 while Sepoy drifted from $1.90 to $2.10.
“We saw a huge rush of bets for More Joyous as soon as we opened the market with bets of $5000 and $10,000 arriving,” Sullivan said.
“The way the money is coming, there will be little between her and Sepoy by the time they jump.
“We haven’t been able to find a punter to back Sepoy in his first crack against the older horses and he looks set to continue to drift, especially if Melbourne’s weather continues to deteriorate.”
Sullivan said punters had also launched a long price move for the Queenslander, Buffering following his last start win in the McEwen Stakes.
“We have taken bets of $3000 and $2000 at $19 on Buffering and he is now into $15,” he said.
“While the superstars, Sepoy and More Joyous dominate the market, you can make a case for nearly all the field here so it does promise to be a tremendous betting race.”
