Moyenne Corniche well backed in Herbert Power Stakes

English raider Moyenne Corniche has been well backed in early betting for the Sportingbet Herbert Power Stakes with the gelding shortening from $41 to $31 after some big early bets.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said the Brian Ellison trained stayer had been the only horse punters had wanted in a very open betting race.

“We took two early bets to win $25,000 each at $41 and then another bet to win $10,000 after he shortened to $34,” Sullivan said.

“It is obviously his first run here but his form suggests he goes well with his runs spaced and the money suggests he has settled in very well.

“Interestingly his stable mate, Saptapadi, has had some support for the Caulfield Cup at big odds while neither have really been backed in the Melbourne Cup where they are both $101 and yet to qualify.”

Sullivan said he was prepared to take on the favourite, Tanby, given his steep rise in class.

“Tanby is $2.90 and while impressive last start, this is much tougher and I think he is under the odds here.”
