The following race previews are from the traders at IASbet.
Horse Racing Caulfield Race 6 – WJ Adams
The WJ Adams is a terrific race with so many promising sprinters resuming. Bel Sprinter ($2.20) is a very nice horse with a good second in the Bobbie Lewis at his last run before a spell. He’s trialled well so will be competitive, but just a little cautious about the current price, the handicapper hasn’t missed him.
Kulgrinda ($4.50) has excellent first up and second up form, so is sure to be primed again for a big race. Slight concern for her is the awkward barrier but with the Moody/Nolen combination she must be kept very safe. The very consistent General Truce ($10.00) is hard fit and must be included in the exotics.
Two interesting runners resuming for new stables are Shock Value ($11.00) for David Hayes and Faster Son ($21.00) for Mick Price. Both are capable of an upset on their best form.
Caulfield Race 7 - Reaan Victoria Cup
An interesting race with the compressed weights meaning only a kilo between the top and bottom runners.
Not much speed in this, with The Big Steel ($3.80) expected to lead. He’s been costly for punters being a beaten favourite in his last couple but is racing well. This looks an ideal race for the Zabeel gelding Bolton ($4.20) who gets to a preferred distance and is drawn to get a nice run.
Royal Mail ($5.00) dictated last time at Flemington and will be thereabouts again. Sea Galleon ($5.00) is an interesting runner. He’s had a freshen up following great wins over longer journeys prior to Christmas and looks to be an improving type. No surprise to see him in the finish.
Hunter Cup – Melton Race 8
The horse to beat is Auckland Reactor ($2.85), a former champion juvenile who has struggled to produce his best in Australia, but gets his chance in an even Hunter Cup field.
Opportunistic sprinter Choise Achiever ($7.00) should take a handy position and ran a nice third in the Shepparton Cup, he looks suited to these conditions. A good roughie in the race is Hesa Buzzin ($21.00) who has been racing well without luck, he finally draws a great barrier and is a genuine winning chance at nice odds.
Jaccka Clive ($ 10.00) was in claiming races not long ago, but such is his rich vein of form since Greg Sugars became regular driver, he now finds himself with a hope in a Hunter Cup.
Inter Dominion Trotting Championship – Melton Race 5
Defending champion I Can Doosit ($1.80) looks to have a class edge on his rivals but will need to be at his best to overcome the awkward barrier and strong field.
Springbank Richard ($9.00) is another Kiwi who has excelled since coming to Australia. He will stalk the favourite and look to have the last crack at him. I Didn’t Do It ($4.00) is the best of the locals. He’ll lead for a long way but there is a slight question about his ability to handle the sustained pressure. Vulcan ($12.00) should sit three back on the fence but if he can get the breaks and some overdue luck, he could be the blowout result.
