    Golden Slipper Preview

The following preview is courtesy of Gerard Twomey from IASBet:

So far this season the fillies have dominated the Two Year Old features providing all three placings in both the Magic Millions Classic and the Blue Diamond Stakes. With the connections of our highest rated colt All Too Hard electing to bypass the race, the expectation is for the trend to continue in this year’s renewal of the Golden Slipper.

Blue Diamond winner Samaready ($2.60) has revived memories of Alinghi with her dominant performances. The task facing Samaready is that she has to peak twice in one preparation and emulate Courtza who won both races back in 1989 when they were run a fortnight apart. At her current quote of $2.60 she appears under the odds considering the weight of history against her. Snitzerland ($21) appeared reluctant to let down behind Samaready on the significantly rain affected track in the Reisling Stakes and with the addition of blinkers and the likelihood of firm ground, expect her to run a big race at odds. Driefontein ($15) is unbeaten in four starts and her best performance was in the B J McLachlan Stakes at Doomben where she blitzed a classy field in very fast time over 1200m off a 56 day break . Gai Waterhouse presents her into the Slipper off a similar break and she is another who represents great value. Her stablemate No Looking Back ($10) controversially lost the Magic Millions to her on protest and then ran a blinder in the Blue Diamond from a wide draw off a six week break. Gai has given the filly a soft barrier trial leading into this for race jockey Craig Williams and she is drawn perfectly for a peak performance.

    Below are the latest odds.
