    Weekend racing preview - June 2nd 2012

The following comments are from the traders at IASbet.

Queensland Oaks Eagle Farm Race 7

Very open race this year with the market headed by the NZ Oaks winner Miss Artistic ($5.50). Quinitessential ($5.50) was beaten by Miss Artistic in that race, but has since settled well and was eye catching last start. Dowager Queen ($11.00) has been well supported at nice odds, and was runner up in the VRC Oaks behind Mosheen. Others to consider include Angel of Mercy ($6.50) who has class, Scorpio Queen ($8.00) who'd appreciate a wet track and Poste Restante ($11.00) who ran a nice 3rd behind Brambles last start.

    Eagle Farm Race 2

Even race with a few chances. The unsettled weather expected may throw up some surprises. Firebolt ($5.50) is awkwardly drawn but is a winner at Group 3 level 12 months ago and looks well placed at this level. Dusty Star ($7.00) has the pace to lead or sit second from the front and the race looks run to suit him. St Germaine ($5.00) was a close up 4th last start when second up and strips fitter now so can be expected to be very competitive. French horse Miss Crissy ($6.50) is the ex-factor at first run for Darren Weir, she handles all conditions and is a big betting watch.

The following comments are courtesy of Luxbet bookie Tristan De Luca.

Group 1 Queensland Oaks: "An open race sees two Kiwi fillies; Quintessential ($5) and Miss Artistic ($5.50) as the current top picks in the market. They are closely followed by Scorpio Queen ($8), Dowager Queen ($11) and the Corey Brown ridden Angel of Mercy ($6.50). However, there is no doubt that the form horse going into the race is Invest at $9.50 who is coming off a win in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks at Morphettville a month ago and a last start win in Doomben Roses - the traditional lead-up to the Queensland Oaks. Local hopes come in the form of the Patinack Farm owned Pretty Pins ($31)."

"The Group 2 Queensland Guineas sees the Peter Snowden traine d Mental all the rage at $1.90 after an impressive win in the Fred Best Classic at Doomben 10 days ago. Victorian visitor Amah Rock ($9) will be hoping to turn the tables after running second to Mental in that race. It’s another Snowden runner, Free Wheeling ($4.40) and two-time Group winner Shopaholic ($11) rounding out the others in the market. Again the local hopes are confined to the roughies with Morning Captain ($31), Emmalene ($21) and the Magic Million Guineas winner, Punch On at $51."
