Caulfield Race 7 – Blue Diamond Stakes
Expect the fillies to have the edge in this event with the weight advantage and no stand out colts or geldings. Good speed expected with Montsegur and Metastasio likely to take up the running. Our top pick is another Snowden trained filly, Guelph ($3.20) who has had an ideal preparation. She should settle midfield and looks ready to peak. Metastasio ($6.00) has had two good wins, she’ll jump and take a forward position and has displayed good acceleration late in her races. Miracles of Life ($3.10) is a small filly and from the draw might get caught in some traffic so will need some luck. She has plenty of ability running quick times, so shouldn’t be discounted. Gregers ($17.00) and Godiva Rock ($17.00) both represent good value and should be included in exotics.
Caulfield Race 8 – Oakleigh Plate
The undefeated Barakey ($3.20) is across from WA and is the one to beat. His wins have been brilliant and he runs slick times. He’s the best sprinter to come from Perth since Hay List and he should take a forward position, proving hard to beat. Shamal Wind ($4.50) looks nicely placed at the minimum weight and is well drawn. She’s also undefeated and while this is certainly her greatest test, this has been a good race for three year olds. Ortensia ($7.00) is a good sprinting mare, but her best wins have been at WFA, so the 58kg is her challenge in this. Value pick could be Spirit of Boom ($13.00) who ran second behind Barakey in the Winterbottom Stakes in Perth and Lone Rock ($15.00) who races well fresh.
Warwick Farm Race 6 – Apollo Stakes
Nice race with some of these stayers likely to have a big hand in the big race features. Expect an even tempo with Laser Hawk and Glencadam Gold likely to take up the running. Our top pick is Glencadam Gold ($3.30) who looks to be a topliner in the making. He resumes here but has trialled well and can win first up. If it’s not the up and comer winning, then the proven WFA horse in Shoot Out ($4.80) can find a chink in the favourite’s armour, he won first up last preparation. Tougher Than Ever 9$5.50) will be improved by his first run in Australia and suited at the 1400m. Danleigh ($8.00) has had support but now prefers better ground, so the gloomy forecast might not suit him.
