    Weekend racing preview

Below is a preview of selected horse and harness racing events this weekend. The following comments have been sourced from IASbet. The odds are as of Thursday afternoon, and are subject to change.

    Horse Racing
    :

Warwick Farm Race 6 - Warwick Stakes

A very tricky field with stayers and middle distance horses resuming. Gathering ($12.00) is a great each way chance at nice odds. He's a group one winner of the Railway and there doesn't appear a lot of speed in this so he should settle in the first couple and handle the wet. Triple Elegance ($6.50) will have benefited from his first up run in the Missile where the speed was hot. The 1400m suits and expect a big race from him. Pinwheel ($4.60) is super honest. This is his first try at 1400m so the last furlong might test him but he's drawn OK in 11 and can take a forward position on an affected track. Ilovethiscity ($4.60) has the class to win this, slight query given the training mishap during the week. Watch Maluckyday ($17.00) and Shootoff ($21.00) with an eye to the big spring features.

Warwick Farm Race 7 - Silver Shadow Stakes
The top three are standouts. Elite Falls ($2.50) clearly has the best form with a third in the Slipper. She's trialled well and from barrier 2 will get back and with luck can charge home over the top. Streama ($4.80) looks a talented horse and with a light 2yo season can improve into a classy 3yo this preparation. Pane In The Glass ($4.40) has drawn out in 11, but that might be the place to win from late in the day. She'll hit the line strongly. Florentina ($11.00) lacks the class of the others but has a fitness edge and can figure in the finish.

Moonee Valley Race 6 - McKenzie Stakes
Race 6 is a very open race with lots of chances. Kid Kobe ($6.50) is top pick. The 1200m suits, he has a fitness edge and from his nice draw he should get a good run. Running Tall ($4.40) has a touch of class and was the winner of the Sires Produce and should run well. Niconoise ($7.00) is beautifully bred (related to Nicconi and Niconero) and from his impressive win on debut in Adelaide he looks to have a bright future. Watch The New Boy ($10.00) who looks a derby type and Huegill ($4.60) who has form behind Sepoy at his only start.

Moonee Valley Race 7 - Graphics Stakes
Two main hopes in this with Kulgrinda ($2.40) the top pick. She has the benefit of the Moody/Nolen combination and should get the box seat. First up in Adelaide she cruised to victory and looks untapped. Definitely Ready ($3.70) is the other big chance. The only query with him is he could get caught in a speed battle up front with the likes of Eight Bills and Wilander. If he can get some peace up front he'll be hard to beat. Wilander ($9.00) ran well up the straight after a two year absence and can go well here. Morgan Dollar ($11.00) is worth considering in the exotics. He's very honest in this type of race and is drawn to get a good run.

    Harness:

    Melton Race 8 - Breeders Crown 3yo C & G Final
Sushi Sushi ($1.80) is clearly the one to beat. He's had 12 starts this season for 12 wins. His only doubt is overcoming the worst possible draw from the inside back row. His main danger is Excel Stride ($3.50) who is also drawn poorly but may settle in front of Sushi Sushi and be hard to hold out. The rest of the field is very even.

    Melton Race 5 - Breeders Crown 4yo E & G Final
Potential Grand Circuit star Lanercost ($1.75) is a clear favourite. He'll also have to overcome an awkward draw. The main danger is Franco Jamar ($5.00) who appears to be peaking for this. David Hercules ($0.00) has had an amazing past 12 months but has a horror draw. If he can get some luck late in the race, he has the blistering speed to finish hard to win.
