Magnussen odds blowing out in Men's 100m freestyle

James Magnussen is close to surrendering his long-standing favouritism to win gold in the Men’s 100m freestyle at the London Olympics as punters continue to desert the Australian swimming star in favour of Frenchman Yannick Agnel.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said Magnussen has been unwanted with punters since his disappointing swim in the 4x100m relay and he continues to drift in the betting.

“Magnussen is now out to $2.00 after being as short as $1.26 just two days ago”, Sullivan said.

“The money has been streaming in for the Yannick Agnel which has forced us to slash his odds from $21 to $2.25 in the space of three days.

“We had a punter have $11,000 at $3.75 before he won the 200m and then another $16,000 at $2.35 following that win.”

“If the money continues for Agnel, he could well overtake Magnussen as favourite which would be a massive swing from just 48 hours ago”, Sullivan said.

Australia’s other hope in the race, James Roberts, has also drifted in betting from $7.00 out to $15.00.
