All-Spanish quarterfinal match at 2012 French Open where Rafael Nadal meets his countryman Nicolas Almagro. World Nr.2 player Rafael Nadal, who celebrated his 26th birthday last week and is currently tied with Bjorn Borg with six French Open titles but if all goes as planned this week, Nadal will break this record of the legendary Swede on Sunday and become unarguably the best claycourter of all times. Rafael Nadal pushed his Roland Garros record to 49-1 (only lost to Robin Soderling in fourth round in 2009) after an easy win over Juan Monaco in last round. The Spaniard has shown some commanding form in Paris this year and has never lost fewer games in his first four matches than this year (dropped 19 games). On the other side of court will stand Nadal´s countryman, Nicolas Almagro who is also an excellent claycourter and a player whose record in Roland Garros is very disappointing as he was 13-8 in his eight visits and reached just two quarterfinals (2008 and 2010) before this year. Poor result for someone who won 12 ATP Tour titles on the dirt and added five runner-up finishes. Nicolas Almagro is an offensive baseliner with good serve and his groundstrokes, particularly on his favored forehand side, are very powerful. Nadal´s excellent form has been already mentioned but Almagro is also playing great tennis now and won 8 matches in a row, all in straight sets since an ATP World Tour event in Nice. This makes it 20 sets won in a row for Almagro with just one tiebreaker! Rafael Nadal is mentally one of the strongest players and he also holds an unbelievable record in matches against his countrymen. Their Head 2 Head stands at 7-0 for Nadal but Almagro put much better fight in their last four meetings and kept the scorline relatively close. Nicolas Almagro has the game to be Nadal´s first real test at 2012 French Open and make him work hard for the win.
