    US Open odds

Punters rate Sam Stosur as Australia’s best hope at the 2012 US Open with the world number 7 a $34 chance to win the women’s singles with Sportingbet Australia.

Sportingbet CEO Michael Sullivan said Serena Williams has been very well supported to win her fourth US Open title.

“Serena is a rock solid $2 favourite to win and we’ve taken a number of four figure bets on her at that price,” Sullivan said.

“Over 90% of the money we’ve taken on the women’s singles title has been for Serena.”

“We’ve written a few small bets on Stosur at the $34,” Sullivan said.

Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova are equal second favourites at $6 while Petra Kvitova is fourth pick at $8.

In the men’s draw punters believe Lleyton Hewitt has next to no hope of repeating his 2001 US Open performance with the former world number one rated a $501 hope. Hewitt’s compatriot Bernard Tomic is also at the long odds of $331 to win the men’s singles.

Novak Djokovic has been backed from $2.80 into $2.40 in front of Roger Federer who is $4.25 into $3.

Punters have backed Serena Williams into odds-on favouritism to win the 2012 US Open and capture her 15th Grand Slam title.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said over 90% of bets on the women’s tournament winner have been for Serena.

“We’ve taken one five figure bet on her to win at $2.10 and a heap of four figure bets too and she’s been crunched into $1.90,” Sullivan said.

“Serena was $3.25 when the market went up so she has been incredibly well supported by punters.”

Victoria Azarenka is a $6.00 second favourite ahead of Maria Sharapova at $6.25, while Australia’s Samantha Stosur is a $34 hope to repeat her 2011 performance. Stosur is a $1.10 favourite to beat Croat Petra Martic in their round 1 match.

In the men’s draw, Novak Djokovic is a $2.30 favourite ahead of Roger Federer ($3) and Andy Murray ($4.75).

Bernard Tomic is a $331 hope while Lleyton Hewitt will start the tournament as a $501 hope to repeat his 2001 performance.
